General DescriptionAn adjunct faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of curricula, encouraging student success, and promoting the mission of the division to which the adjunct faculty member belongs as well as the College as a whole.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Provide quality instruction in courses agreed upon with the dean/coordinator.
- Develop clear course objectives, relevant class activities, and effective presentations of learning materials.
- Apply fair and understandable grading practices for credit classes.
- Respond promptly to student inquiries and maintain a positive classroom atmosphere.
- Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program/department.
- Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from program, division, and college administrators.
- Attend department, division, and college meetings as required.
- Acquire new knowledge and skills as appropriate for the academic discipline.
- Support the Division’s and College’s vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
- Serve on any special assignments as mutually agreed.
Course(s) to be taught: Any courses within the English, Humanities, or Philosophy disciplines.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in English Composition or comparable graduate courses.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Positive human relations and communications skills.
- Basic computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software.
- Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles.
- Commitment to helping students achieve their goals and attain a college education.
- Willingness to teach in a competency-based instructional system.
- Teamwork skills within an instructional unit.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organized articulation of concepts.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn computerized tutorial programs.
- Timely and reliable; punctual.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn campus Learning Management Systems such as Mine Online and Moodle.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Availability during office hours and other supervisory expectations.
- Primarily sedentary with occasional exertion up to 10 pounds.
- Frequent movement within classroom to assist students.
- Need to listen, communicate, and answer emails; operate computer equipment.
- Requires visual acuity for reading and teaching materials.
- Works in indoor classroom or office setting.
