Position Summary

Provides a continuum of services through direct instruction, collaboration, consultation, and monitoring for students receiving Visual Impaired Services through Special Education Services. Develops and implements IEPs and maintains records of designated students. Provides resources and instructional strategies to IEP Team members including classroom teachers, educational service providers, or other district personnel on appropriate accommodations and modifications for assigned students.

Essential Duties
  • Serves as Teacher of Record for designated students receiving VI Services.
  • Participates as a member of the IEP Team for evaluations, including initial evaluations and re-evaluations regarding qualifying students for Special Education Services with Visual Impairment.
  • Consults with site-based staff on development of Individualized Education Plan for assigned students, attends meetings with parents and site-based staff as needed, and monitors implementation of Special Education Services.
  • Meets deadlines to ensure that IEPs and Eligibility Determinations are in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Assists regular classroom teachers with appropriate educational programming for assigned students and how to implement the accommodations, modifications and services per the student's IEP.
  • Checks and monitors assigned students' visual assistive technology.
  • Assists in reviewing student records and files when making placement and service decisions.
  • Provides support and information to students, parents, district staff, service providers, and administration.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
  • Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate in Visual Impaired or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related Visual Impaired Service field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Fluency in written English including developing reports, special education paperwork, and business correspondence through various technology.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, students and the general public.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced setting with multiple projects of varying complexity, tight deadlines, and demands, while continually adapting to changing priorities.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must have reliable transportation and willingness to have flexible schedule to commute between schools.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities)
  • University‑level coursework in Visual Impaired Education.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience teaching in an educational setting for VI students.
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
  • Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
  • Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
  • Office duties will be performed in a well‑lighted, climate‑controlled environment.
