The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for 2 full-time, Renewable Term Lecturer positions (9‑month academic year contract with 3 months summer required) to teach in the Master of Arts in Museum Studies program.

These positions will begin in January 2025 (spring semester), or August 2025 (fall semester). They are located in Norman, Oklahoma.

Position Details

Teaching load: 80% teaching, 20% service. Standard 4:4 or 4:4:2 teaching load. Typical load of 8 classes per year: 3 fall, 3 spring, 2 summer.

Specialization Requirements

The successful candidates must have a specialization in Museum Studies and the ability to teach two or more of the following specializations:

  • Museum Management, Administration, Leadership within a Science, Natural history, or Technology Museum
  • Museum Collection Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Management within a Science, Natural History or Technology Museum
  • Technology for museum professionals (including website development, database management, and emerging technologies such as virtual reality, makerspaces, 2D/3D scanning)
  • Digital collections (including digitization, metadata development, use of various technologies to develop digital collections)
  • Audience engagement and programming in science, natural history, or technology museums
Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. with a focus on Museum Studies, from disciplines such as Library and Information Science, History, Anthropology, Geology, Fine Arts, or others.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching graduate students.
  • Experience teaching in an online, asynchronous format.
