About This Position
Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension educators serve as the front door to the University, linking OSU to the people of Oklahoma across all 77 counties. This role focuses on disseminating research‑based information in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4‑H youth development, and community and rural development.
Location and FocusThis position is located in the Muskogee County Extension Office, Muskogee, OK. It is focused on providing leadership for family and consumer sciences (approx. 90% of the time) and supporting 4‑H youth development programs (approx. 10% of the time). The incumbent will act as a cohesive team member, engaging local clientele, advisory groups, and volunteer leaders to plan, implement, and evaluate county programs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate family and consumer sciences programs.
- Support 4‑H youth development initiatives.
- Collaborate with local clientele, advisory groups, and volunteers.
- Plan, implement and evaluate county‑wide programs.
- Maintain cellular or other electronic communication devices and manage correspondence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health‑related field.
- For candidates without an FCS degree, required to obtain the following certifications within two years of employment: two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management), pass APK and FCS OSAT.
- If possessing an education degree but no FCS degree, must provide proof of passing PPAT or APK.
- For candidates without an FCS or education degree but certified in FCS and with three years of teaching experience, no special requirements beyond degree conferred before start date.
- Starting salary is based upon education and prior relevant work experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation for travel related to official duties (reimbursement for official travel available).
- Strong listening, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage time and resources effectively.
- Commitment to personal professional development.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clientele, advisory groups, volunteer leaders, and other professionals.
- Proficiency with computing and computer‑based communications technology.
- Leadership ability in designing, promoting, presenting, and evaluating educational programs, with a desire to reach diverse audiences.
- Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work.
Base annual salary: $45,000 with a bachelor’s degree; $51,000 with a master’s degree. Salary is based on education and prior relevant work experience. Extension educators are employed on a continuous basis, subject to performance and county funding availability.
