Project Director, Math Improvement Agency

Position Overview:

The Project Director of Math Improvement provides strategic leadership for the Office of Math Improvement and oversees the implementation of the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act. The role advances statewide mathematics achievement by promoting evidence‑based instructional practices, monitoring program implementation and outcomes, developing guidance and professional learning resources, and collaborating with educators, administrators, policymakers, vendors, and stakeholders. The Project Director leads office initiatives, supports compliance with statutory requirements, analyzes data to inform decision‑making, and fosters cross‑functional partnerships to ensure effective, aligned, and impactful mathematics improvement efforts across Oklahoma schools.

This role requires a consistent, in‑person presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and does not offer remote, telecommuting, or hybrid options.

Knowledge & Expertise:
Deep understanding of evidence‑based strategies used to teach mathematics across grades K‑5; knowledge of nationally implemented policies related to math improvement; engagement with stakeholders and external organizations that recommend math improvement policy.

Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act:
Monitor the implementation and progress of the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act.

Planning and Directing Office of Math Improvement

Activities:

Lead and coordinate office initiatives by delegating responsibilities, providing guidance, and promoting professional growth among team members to achieve program goals.

Professional Development:
Recommend professional development to support the effective implementation and interpretation of assessment types required under the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act; analyze data to recommend evidence‑based, outcomes‑driven providers; plan, organize, and deliver professional development to support implementation of the Act and evidence‑based mathematics strategies.

Vendor

Collaboration:

Monitor the implementation of a screening instrument used to identify students with mathematics difficulties, including characteristics of dyscalculia.

Guidance Development:
Develop comprehensive guidance resources to effectively support school district administrators and educators in implementing the Act.

Cross‑Functional

Collaboration:

Collaborate across divisions and offices within the Oklahoma State Department of Education to ensure alignment of goals, initiatives, and resources; coordinate and facilitate meetings with educators, administrators, and stakeholder committees to gather feedback, evaluate systems supporting the Act, and identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement.

• Master’s degree in Education or a related field; official transcripts required upon hire.
• Five (5) years of experience in education, including experience teaching mathematics.
• Two (2) years of experience in administrative duties, educational leadership, instructional coaching, or related leadership roles.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job‑related travel.

Office setting based out of Oliver Hodge Building, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Physical demands include: ability to stand, reach, and bend 50% of the time; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, and office telephone 75% of the time; ascend/descend stairs 25% of the time; ability to lift to 25 lbs.
