Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt.

Pay Rate: $15.31/hr

Experience Required
:
Three (3) months working with children in a formal or informal learning environment.

Minimum

Education Requirements:

College coursework in science, education, or environmental studies preferred.

Department: Conservation, Education, Science.

Direct Supervisor: Assistant Director of Education.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Primary

Work Location:

Zoo setting, both indoors and outdoors.

Certification: Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Other: It is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks. Ability to complete CPR/1st Aid certification within 30 days of hire and completion of OKC Zoo Health and Safety Institute training within 30 days of employment. This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory diseases and, thus, is subject to annual tuberculosis testing.

Job Summary: The Program Educator engages students of all ages through environmental and conservation education lessons that support the Zoo’s mission, vision, and values. This position helps facilitate fun and safe learning experiences to help program participants gain an appreciation for wildlife and the natural world.

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:

• Facilitate various types of nature-focused programming, such as overnights, family programs, school programming, ambassador animal encounters, and community outreach.
• Manage the safety of participants during programming, including following all safety protocols, understanding the position’s role in emergency procedures, and responding to emergencies as required.
• Present ambassador animals during programming.
• Work in a manner that supports and protects the health of the assigned collection, including wearing assigned PPE and limiting exposure to known contagions.
• Participate in conservation activities to support OKC Zoo’s mission.
• Foster constructive attitudes and team orientation among staff; positively communicate and collaborate with Zoo personnel and professional colleagues.
• Represent the zoo in a professional manner.
• Create an atmosphere of respect with peers and work as a team.
• Help with Nature Explores Preschool if needed.
• Take personal accountability for performing at a high level.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
