Description
The list below gives a general, though not comprehensive, description of the basic tasks a teacher normally will be required to perform and will be evaluated upon. The teacher will comply with all applicable school policies and guidelines, including those addressed in the Employee Handbook and the Safety Manual. This job description is to be used in cooperation with the specific blueprint and educational strategies/goals determined for each level.
Requirements- A high school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
- Direct experience/engagement in a structured instructional environment. This may include school, church, daycare, or related experience. Experience as program or teacher lead preferred.
- Direct experience/engagement working with special needs individuals. This may include formal structured settings, familial or other relationship, or other experience. Experience in a structured environment preferred.
- RBT or special education training or certification preferred.
- Grow in understanding and application of Hanley’s ABA methods.
- Model appropriate age- and developmental- level pairing with students.
- Collaboratively work with all St. Joe’s staff to ensure supervision and engagement for all students.
- Demonstrate flexibility for schedule and/or cohort/content area oversight within a student-needs-focused framework.
- Maintain class routines to accomplish basic tasks as determined by Administration/Leads.
- Enforce classroom and behavior management policies to provide an orderly atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Be prepared to apply consistently both the letter and spirit of the school rules in their treatment of the children, maintenance of the classrooms, and execution of plans.
- Ensure that students should understand what is expected of them and display an acceptable degree of self-discipline.
- Engage with students in accord with ABA principles and training.
- Be thoroughly informed and knowledgeable about the behavior and academic plans for cohort/content area responsibility, communicating with Leads/Administration as needed.
- Follow lesson plans provided by Team Leads for the cohort and/or content area assigned to guide the student toward his/her individual goals.
- Be thoroughly informed and knowledgeable about the subjects assigned to teach, and reflect interest in each subject, using mimetic instruction consistently and appropriately.
- Make good and wise use of approved curriculum guide and blueprint while skillfully moving students toward mastering learning objectives.
- Prepare necessary materials for a substitute teacher.
- Maintain communication with “specials” teachers (art, music, language, etc.) and express to students that these subjects are equal in importance to the other subjects they study.
- Attend classes with integrated students as directed by cohort/content area Lead. Support the classroom teacher by ensuring St. Joseph’s students are participating well without unduly distracting the class or lesson. Support the classroom teacher by finding opportunities to support the whole class when dedicated attention to St. Joseph’s students is not required.
- Maintain communication with mainstream Academy teachers when point person for integration.
- Track behavioral data for students where required.
- Maintain a neat, organized, clean and stimulating classroom environment for students, which should be decorated in an age-appropriate aesthetic that utilizes the whole space. Special attention should be given to providing sensory rich classrooms that provide clear, clean, calm, consistent spaces for curricular and interpersonal engagement.
- Be thoroughly informed and knowledgeable about the subjects assigned to teach, and reflect interest in each subject, using mimetic instruction consistently and appropriately.
- Articulate a Biblical worldview and apply biblical truth to relevant situations, thereby communicating the relevance of God to all areas of knowledge; teaches subjects in manner consistent with biblical narrative of redemption.
