Adjunct Professor of History

Adjunct Professor of History at Oklahoma City Community College. The primary responsibility is instruction in in‑person or online classes or at local high schools. Secondary responsibilities include supporting curriculum integrity, encouraging student success, and promoting the college mission.

Reports to the History Department Chair. No subordinates report to this position.

• Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in History.
• Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software.

• Committed to helping students achieve their goals and attain a college education.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs used in the department and on campus (such as Moodle).
• Organization and attention to detail.
• Support and willingness to teach in a competency‑based instructional system.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
• Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit.
• Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read and understand content to assist students in interpreting concepts.
• Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups.
• Must be punctual, reliable, and professional.

• Experience in online course instruction.
• Online teaching certification.

• Provide quality instruction in courses agreed upon with the department chair.
• Develop clear course objectives, relevant class activities, and effective presentations of learning materials.
• Apply fair and understandable grading practices for credit classes.
• Respond promptly to students and maintain a positive classroom atmosphere.
• Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program and department.
• Participate in the assessment of general education outcomes.
• Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from program, division, and college administrators.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Acquire new knowledge and skills as appropriate for the academic discipline.
• Maintain any required license or professional certification.
• Satisfy objectives for mutually agreed special assignments.

Day, evening, or weekend as well as campus and/or online as required by section assignment. Courses may be held on OCCC’s main campus, at a high school, or another off‑site location.

• Sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
• Frequent movement around the classroom to assist students.
• Regular use of a computer and other office equipment to prepare instructional documents and answer email correspondence.
• Required visual acuity for observing and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work.
• Indoor classroom or office setting.
