POSITION SUMMARY:

The University Chaplain and Executive Director of Spiritual Formation will serve as a spiritual leader and mentor, nurturing the faith and well‑being of students, faculty, and staff within the MACU community. Grounded in the teachings and values of the Church of God traditions, this role will provide pastoral care, guidance, and support to individuals as they navigate their academic, personal, and spiritual journeys.

Additionally, this role will oversee chapel services, organize religious events, and foster a culture of Christian fellowship, service, and discipleship both on campus and online.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Worship and Discipleship:

• Lead and coordinate vibrant chapel services, including chapel gatherings, prayer meetings, and special events, fostering an atmosphere of reverence, joy, and spiritual renewal for on-campus and online students.
• Develop and implement spiritual formation programs, small groups, and discipleship initiatives designed to foster Christian growth and active fellowship across both resident and distance-learning communities, and MACU employees.
• Provide opportunities for student and campus leaders to lead worship, outreach, and ministry efforts that actively include students from all modalities and that reflect the teachings and values of the Church of God traditions.

Teaching and Biblical

Education:

• Provide opportunities for theological exploration, Bible study, and spiritual formation through seminars, workshops, and educational events rooted in Church of God doctrine and theology, both on-campus and online.
• Facilitate discussions on faith-related topics, biblical principles, and ethical issues relevant to University life and contemporary society from a Church of God perspective, both on-campus and online.
• Mentor and disciple staff and students interested in ministry, missions, or vocational service, guiding them in their spiritual and professional development both on-campus and online.

Administrative and Collaborative Leadership:

• Leverage institutional technology and systems to streamline workflows while collaborating across University departments to align programs with institutional strategy and standards.
• Establish key performance metrics and regularly report to executive leadership on program outcomes, attendance, and departmental effectiveness.
• Oversee daily operations, manage budget allocation, and track financial expenditures to ensure stewardship and alignment with University goals.
• Utilize University software and student management systems to monitor student participation, track engagement in spiritual formation programs, and identify individuals who may benefit from intentional outreach or support.

Community Engagement:

• Foster relationships and build bridges with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, promoting dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation grounded in the love of Christ.
• Engage in outreach initiatives, service projects, and collaborative efforts with local churches and nonprofit ministries to meet the broader community's spiritual, social, and practical needs.
• Partner with University departments, student organizations, and campus ministries to integrate the Wesleyan values, traditions, and mission into the fabric of campus life and learning.

Pastoral Care:

• Provide compassionate pastoral counseling and support to students, faculty, and staff, addressing their spiritual, emotional, and relational needs within the context of Church of God beliefs and practices.
• Offer prayer, encouragement, and guidance for individuals seeking spiritual direction, discernment, and growth in their faith journey.
• Respond to crises, emergencies, and challenges within the University community, offering pastoral care and support in alignment with Church of God principles and values.
