The Classroom Substitute provides support in Little Light House classrooms when the regular classroom teacher or associate teacher is unavailable. This position helps ensure students continue to receive a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment while meeting their educational and developmental needs.
The Classroom Substitute works alongside classroom staff, therapists, and other team members to support classroom activities, student engagement, and individualized learning opportunities.
The Classroom Substitute understands and embraces that they are part of Little Light House, a Christian ministry with Biblical core values whose mission is to glorify God by improving the quality of life for children with special needs, their families, and communities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist classroom teachers and associates with daily classroom activities and routines.
- Support students with individualized learning activities, classroom tasks, and daily needs.
- Follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and instructions provided by the classroom teacher.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Adapt activities and teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
- Provide support during classroom transitions, activities, and therapy sessions as needed.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with staff regarding student progress, needs, and behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.
- Assist with classroom organization, cleaning, and other duties as assigned.
- Support the mission and values of Little Light House in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
- Reports to the Director of Education
. - Works under the direction of the classroom teacher and classroom associates while assigned to a classroom.
- Collaborates with teachers, therapists, and Little Light House staff to support student success.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with young children and/or individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in a classroom environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and classroom needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow directions and implement classroom plans.
- Commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment for children with special needs.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and Christian ministry of Little Light House.
