Spur Design is looking for a licensed Electrical Engineer to join our growing team. This role supports the design of thoughtful, high-quality electrical systems across a variety of building projects while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams. This role is intended for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). EITs actively pursuing licensure may be considered.
Responsibilities- Provide electrical engineering design and documentation on projects within Spur Design offices, including site investigations, drafting, design, contract documentation, and occasional construction administration.
- Lead MEP design teams to deliver electrical engineering support across a variety of building types and project scopes
- Develop detailed electrical design drawings and specifications from schematic design through construction documents using Revit MEP or other modeling software
- Design electrical systems including power service and distribution, branch circuits, lighting and controls, fire alarm, telecommunications, audio/visual, and security systems
- Produce one-line diagrams, schematics, equipment layouts, and construction documentation
- Prepare engineering reports at conceptual and schematic levels
- Perform calculations for electrical loads, lighting levels, fault currents, protective coordination, and arc-flash analysis using established methods and software tools
- Interpret and apply building codes and standards to ensure compliance and design integrity
- Select and size electrical equipment, review design calculations, and ensure alignment with project scope
- Perform and review Revit modeling and ensure accuracy in design documentation
- Respond to RFIs, perform submittal reviews, and manage ASI documentation
- Edit specifications and coordinate designs with architects and other engineering disciplines
- Conduct fieldwork and site investigations and provide direction to design staff
- Interpret drawings, codes, and technical materials to support design decisions
- Provide first-pass technical review and guidance to junior staff
- Act as lead engineer on most projects with direction from senior licensed engineers
- Delegate project-related tasks to junior staff and provide mentorship and oversight
- Participate in the mentoring and development of EITs and Designers
- Help develop and refine Spur Design standards and documentation
- Maintain and update office systems including Revit (BIM) libraries, filing systems, and project management tools
- Manage and prioritize project work proactively within a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Maintain accurate daily records of time spent on assigned tasks and manage time effectively
- Travel as needed for site visits, professional collaboration, and satellite office support
- Attend office meetings and regularly report on project progress
- Support marketing efforts, project interviews, level-of-effort estimates, and proposal development
- Engage with clients, contractors, and officials regularly on projects of all sizes and complexities
- Demonstrate initiative by asking questions, seeking next steps, and pursuing continued growth in the field
- 4+ years of experience in the construction industry or related field
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or a related field
- Passed the Professional Licensure exam (PE) and holds licensed status in a minimum of one state
- Strong understanding of electrical building systems, construction specifications, and contract documents
- Familiarity with Owner-Architect, Owner-Contractor, and Architect-Consultant agreements
- Ability to interpret and apply building codes, including NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 99, and NFPA 101
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Bluebeam, and design software, including AutoCAD and Revit
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
