- Performs Special Inspections as required per IBC/ICC standards and specifications.
- Performs a variety of tests on construction materials using sophisticated materials-testing equipment, according to state, municipal or client regulations and requirements.
- Performs site visits to inspect materials for quality and sampling or testing of materials as needed.
- Records and reports result after performing tasks based on specialization.
- Reports result verbally to clients and electronically through the CEC construction materials testing software platform.
- Ensures that testing turnaround schedules are achieved.
- Develops, fosters, and maintains relationships with clients.
- Actively supports laboratory certifications/accreditations and renewals.
- Maintains equipment and CEC vehicle, if assigned or floater use, in good working condition and reports problems or repairs needed in a timely manner.
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Completes with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, including using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED).
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Five years' experience in construction materials testing in a designated specialty.
- Extensive knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM procedures.
- Knowledge of how test results are determined, the ability to interpret them, and understanding of cause and effect when comparing raw data to field applications.
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies and various municipalities' requirements and specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret plan documents and project specifications.
- English language skills: ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals.
- Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to apply concepts to practical situations.
- Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Organizational skills: ability to prioritize, organize and delegate tasks and assignments; ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.
- Special Inspections - IBC/ICC Special Inspector
- At least one or more certifications in the following areas:
- ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel - Bolting, Structural Steel - Welding).
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist)
- Other national, regional, state, and local materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- At least one or more certifications in the following areas:
- Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily technical nature.
