Quality Engineer

Summary

Ensuring Customer Satisfaction through continuous process quality development through management of:
Process Control Plans (PCP), PFMEA. Effectiveness is measured through: RPN reduction (PFMEA), in process yield (FPY) and warranty reduction (W as a % of sales).

• Product/Model PCP (Process Control Plan) development and maintenance.
• Facilitate cross‑functional Preventative & Corrective action plans based on internal and external quality results. Failure analysis on customer returns to ensure quick turnaround time and responsiveness.
• Mentor cross‑functional teams (Process/Product Improvement teams) for effective root cause analysis, corrective and preventative action. This position will include routine training of other groups.
• Coordinate customer visits.
• QA portion of APQP (PPAP) on product launches.
• Resolve critical issues/situations ensuring they are handled correctly and within current policy/procedure guidelines.
• Represent quality in Lean activities.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (or related field) and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality engineering position dealing with manufacturing quality process techniques and quality improvement programs. Basic knowledge in the manufacturing/processing of electrical/mechanical devices is required. Must be experienced in automotive/TS‑16949 & ISO‑9000 and customer/supplier relationships.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Determine the difference between a critical and general issue and gauge priorities accordingly.

Computer literate with working knowledge of software such as Word, Excel, Access, and related tools.

Maintain high technical knowledge of process control and capability. Understand mechanical material processing. Coach, mentor, and lead a professional team. Plan, direct, and delegate work; manage multiple functions concurrently. Strong analytical and statistical skills. Technical writing skills are important. Stay up to date on industry trends and technical advancements.

ASQC Certified Mechanical Inspector, ASE Transmission Certification, and/or Certified Quality Technician desirable.

Regular use of hands to fingers, handle, or feel; talk or hear. Frequently stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate.
