Transportation Specialist

Department: Bridge Division: 9

Location: 200 NE 21st Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73105

Responsibilities
  • Perform sampling and testing of materials for highway construction and maintenance.
  • Conduct plant inspections and prepare materials certifications.
  • Survey grade and alignment of highways using survey equipment.
  • Collect statistics and documentation on the state highway system.
  • Conduct traffic studies to determine system improvements.
  • Develop and oversee bid proposals, revisions, and contractor communications for construction projects.
  • Inspect, review, or oversee contractors, consultants, or utility relocations to ensure compliance with plans and contracts.
  • Prepare progressive and final estimates for construction contractors.
  • Plan and review transportation systems, including rail, public transportation, waterways, and highways.
  • Perform real estate duties such as property appraisal, acquisition, or relocation assistance; prepare plans and reports for right‑of‑way projects.
  • Audit research program effectiveness, right‑of‑way plan adequacy, and construction documentation accuracy.
  • Supervise employees in any transportation work area.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Level I – none;
    Level II – one year of transportation‑related work or equivalent;
    Level III – three years of transportation‑related work or equivalent;
    Level IV – four years of transportation‑related work or equivalent.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic geometry, algebra, laboratory equipment, construction materials, and English language. Ability to measure distance, collect data, operate computer equipment, and operate transportation equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
  • Possible physical abilities demonstration, registration, or certification in a designated profession.
  • May be safety sensitive per 63 O.S. §427.8.
