Engineering Assistant II
The Engineering Assistant II is located in the Prequalification Section of Contract Administration in the Public Works Department. Contract Administration offers architectural and engineering contract services, contractor pre-qualification, and specification management for City departments. This ensures that completed projects meet the expectations and requirements of the City of Oklahoma City and its citizens. The Engineering Assistant II is responsible for supporting section activities by pre-qualifying contractors for eligibility to bid on construction projects or perform specific functions on public property in Oklahoma City.
This position also involves assisting with application reviews, reviewing construction bidding documents, creating letters and memos, and conveying technical information to staff and contractors.
This position is located in the Project Management Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. Engineering Assistant II is a full proficiency, para-professional classification focused on the design, administration, or supervision of a major component of an engineering function. Specialized work areas include water, storm sewer, paving, building construction, or sanitary sewer.
Essential job functions include: designing or coordinating plans, specifications, and construction for projects prepared by the City within an assigned area; reviewing plans prepared by consultants that may impact the area; preparing various documents and reports; determining and monitoring funding allocations; and distributing required information to coordinate and facilitate construction. Engineering Assistants II may supervise a technical staff, with work products subject to review by a Civil Engineer or other immediate supervisor.
Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Skill in writing project specifications. Skill in coordinating divisional activities with state, federal, and regional agencies. Skill in establishing realistic goals and objectives for a work section. Skill in evaluating projects for compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations. Skill in relating written information to drawn or sketched information. Skill in critically reviewing the work products of staff. Ability to work independently.
Ability to travel. Willingness to assume responsibility for decisions made and work performed.
Knowledge of engineering standards and the Oklahoma City Standard Specifications for Construction of Public Improvements. Skill in evaluating projects for compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations. Experience with the Oklahoma State Statute Title 61. Knowledge of Accela, Prime Gov, and the Electronic Bidding System. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Word and Excel).
