Position Summary

The Environmental Specialist provides technical support for identifying, assessing, and resolving environmental compliance issues in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role conducts environmental analyses, supports permitting and compliance programs, evaluates potential impacts, and assists with remediation and mitigation efforts. Responsibilities also include preparing technical documentation, maintaining records, and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental requirements, including RCRA, CWA, and CAA.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental assessments, site evaluations, field investigations, and data collection activities to identify potential environmental impacts, risks, and compliance concerns.

  • Evaluate operations, projects, and activities for compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including RCRA, CWA, CAA, NEPA, and applicable agency-specific requirements.

  • Support the preparation, review, and submission of environmental permits, plans, assessments, and other regulatory documentation.

  • Analyze and interpret environmental data, technical information, and regulatory requirements to support compliance decisions and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental compliance, monitoring, mitigation, and remediation programs.

  • Prepare technical reports, environmental documentation, compliance records, correspondence, and other project deliverables in accordance with established standards and requirements.

  • Support environmental inspections, audits, risk assessments, and regulatory reviews; identify deficiencies and assist with tracking corrective actions through resolution.

  • Evaluate potential impacts to natural, cultural, and human resources and recommend appropriate avoidance, minimization, mitigation, or remediation measures.

  • Coordinate with project teams, clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to communicate environmental requirements and support timely project execution.

  • Maintain accurate environmental records, monitoring data, permits, and supporting documentation to ensure regulatory and organizational requirements are met.

Skills and Abilities
  • Active and valid driver’s license maintained throughout employment

  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations, including RCRA, CWA, CAA, NEPA, and applicable state and local requirements.

  • Ability to interpret and apply environmental regulations, permits, technical standards, and agency guidance.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate environmental data and identify compliance risks.

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills for preparing reports, plans, assessments, and regulatory materials.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and recordkeeping skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency with standard computer applications and environmental data management or mapping tools, as applicable.

Education and Experience
  • Required
    :
    Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resources, or a related scientific or technical field.
  • Required
    :
    Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in environmental compliance, environmental assessment, permitting, remediation, or a related environmental field.
  • Required
    :
    Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including RCRA, CWA, CAA, NEPA, and other applicable requirements
  • Preferred
    :
    Experience preparing environmental reports, compliance documentation, permits, assessments, or other technical deliverables.
  • Preferred
    :
    Experience supporting environmental field activities, inspections, audits, or regulatory reviews
  • Preferred
    :
    Relevant environmental certifications, training, or specialized credentials
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position and operate a computer and other office equipment for extended periods.

  • Ability to frequently communicate and exchange information with employees, clients, regulatory personnel, and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to perform fieldwork that may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, or navigating uneven or rough terrain.
