The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians in performing minimally invasive procedures using imaging technology. This role involves preparing patients and equipment, operating imaging modalities, and ensuring high standards of patient care and safety. The IR Technologist works with the interventional radiologist and healthcare team to support vascular and non-vascular procedures in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Work Functions- Prepare and position patients for interventional radiology procedures, ensuring comfort and safety
- Operate imaging equipment, including fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound, to guide procedures
- Scrub in for sterile procedures, pass instruments, and maintain a sterile field
- Monitor and document patient vital signs and procedural details
- Administer contrast media and monitor for adverse reactions
- Ensure proper radiation safety for patients, staff, and self
- Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, ensuring readiness for procedures
- Manage and restock procedural supplies (catheters, guide wires, contrast agents)
- Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and team members to provide seamless patient care
- Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory protocols
- Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned to support IR lab operations
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- One year of recent experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist
- Valid ARRT, RCIS, or RCES Certification in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Current ACLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Valid Radiologic Technologist license in compliance with state regulations
- PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certification
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills
- English language proficiency in reading and writing
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions
- Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment, push/pull, and bend
- Ability to work effectively with diverse personnel
- Technical/motor skills to assist with procedures and operate department equipment
- Mental ability to cope with high-pressure environments and manage irregular schedules
