Principal Data Engineer

Position Summary

Principal Data Engineer at Caremark LLC, a CVS Health company, located in Hartford, CT. The role focuses on developing large‑scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect, and standardize data that supports insights, reporting, and analytics. The engineer works closely with data science teams, integrates models and algorithms into automated processes, builds data marts, and ensures data quality and accessibility across multiple sources.

• Design, build, and maintain large‑scale data structures, pipelines, and efficient ETL workflows.
• Collaborate with data science teams to transform data and integrate algorithms and models into automated processes.
• Build data marts and data models to support internal customers and data science initiatives.
• Integrate data from diverse sources while ensuring data quality and accessibility standards.
• Analyze existing IT environments, identify critical capabilities, and recommend solutions.
• Develop high‑performance data processing frameworks using cloud and/or on‑premise platforms.
• Write ETL processes, design database systems, and develop tools for real‑time and offline analytics.
• Analyze and synthesize data to meet insights, reporting dashboards, and descriptive/predictive analytics requirements.
• Design conformed, aggregated, and semantic data layers and manipulate large datasets using SQL, BTEQ, SAS, and similar tools.
• Manage data layers in sandbox or production environments for reporting and analytical use cases.
• Work with big‑data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, and Azure or GCP.
• Design data models and solutions for analytical and reporting use cases.
• Apply Hadoop architecture knowledge, HDFS commands, and optimize queries for data pipelines.
• Build robust data pipelines and dynamic systems using Python, Java, and other major programming languages.
• Experiment with available software tools and advise on new tools to determine optimal solutions.
• Support modeling, diagramming, and build design specifications for data objects and processing logic.
• Collaborate with business solution strategists and support onboarding of new data sources through discovery, profiling, and mapping.
• Participate in proofs of concept to build data layers and derive analytical insights.

• Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, or a related field and at least two (2) years of relevant experience.
• At least two (2) years of experience in each of the following:
  • Cloud migration technologies:
    Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Messaging platform:
    Kafka
  • Containerization runtime platform
  • Solution architecture, design, and end‑to‑end delivery of projects
  • Domain support for healthcare or retail organizations
  • Building Proof of Value (PoV) and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) using Generative AI, AutoML, or Virtual AI Databases
  • Guiding selection and use of Large Language Models (LLM) and MVPs
  • Conducting Data Quality assessments and defining Data Governance processes through MLOps
  • Establishing data architectures and best practices

Pay Range: $ per year to $ per year. The base salary may vary based on experience, education, geography, and other factors. The position also offers bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program, and equity award participation.
