Linux Server Engineer

We're seeking a Linux Server Engineer to manage and optimize our Linux-based infrastructure. In this role, you'll install, configure, and maintain servers; automate routine tasks; ensure system security and uptime; and support production and development environments. You'll troubleshoot issues, improve performance, and collaborate with cross functional teams to keep our systems reliable and scalable.

As a Linux Server Engineer with OMES you will enjoy:

  • Generous leave including 15 days of vacation, 15 days of sick leave and 11 paid holidays annually.
  • A comprehensive Benefit Package with a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, or others) across on-prem and cloud environments.
  • Optimize system performance through tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, including patching, hardening, and compliance frameworks.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across OS, hardware, networking, and application layers.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support application deployments and infrastructure projects.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience administering and engineering Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of Linux internals, including kernel, file systems, networking, and system services.
  • Proficiency with shell scripting (Bash, Python, or similar).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex, multi layered issues.
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities.
  • Experience with patching and configuration management tools (Suse Manager, Ansible, Salt, and others).
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives with minimal oversight.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position may be required to sit for extended periods at a desk or workstation, occasionally stand or walk, and may occasionally lift, carry, or push/pull light equipment or materials. Tasks may involve using hands to operate tools, keyboards, or control panels, and may require fine manipulation for detailed work. Occasional travel may be required.
