We are seeking an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin for a long-term contract opportunity supporting a core IBM AS/400 (IBM i/iSeries) environment. This position will be responsible for legacy application development and maintenance, database management, application administration, troubleshooting, system integrations, and modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with RPGLE/RPG IV, CL/CLLE, SQL, DB2 for i, and FTP/SFTP
, along with experience in IBM i system administration and work management.
- Maintain, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize legacy applications developed in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV/ILE RPG, RPGLE, and CL.
- Investigate application issues, operational bugs, batch-processing problems, and user-reported system issues.
- Modify existing application logic to support regulatory requirements, licensing changes, and business-process updates.
- Coordinate with external hosting providers regarding system maintenance, OS patching, database utilities, and environmental changes.
- Manage application-level security, including user profiles and object-level authority.
- Review system audit information, including QAUDJRN, to help maintain system integrity.
- Manage job queues, active subsystems, and application-level job scheduling.
- Coordinate with storage and backup teams regarding application backup windows, disaster recovery testing, and restoration verification.
- Query, manage, and optimize DB2 for i databases.
- Tune SQL queries and indexes to improve database performance.
- Support automated and secure FTP/SFTP file transfers.
- Maintain interfaces between the AS400 environment and state, regional, or partner systems.
- Work with database administrators and cloud architects to extract, clean, and archive legacy data.
- Document application flows, database structures, system dependencies, and integrations.
- Assist with transitioning legacy business processes and applications to modern, cloud-based environments.
Schedule: Hybrid, approximately 20 hours per week
