Network Engineer, Systems Engineer

Provides strategic and operational leadership for One Net’s statewide routing and switching network, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available services in support of education, research, and public-sector partners.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervise the One Net Network Engineering Department staff
- Responsible for all aspects of One Net’s statewide routing and switching infrastructure
- Manage the Network Engineering Department budget
- Coordinate and maintain all One Net external relationships with upstream providers
- Maintain current knowledge of technology landscape, opportunities and threats
- Evaluate and test new technologies and provide recommendations to management
- Design, support, and maintain OCAN routed network services
- Assist the Senior Network Architect by overseeing and designing complex routing and switching structures for the One Net network
- Oversee disaster recovery and security for One Net network services
- Collaborate with One Net subscribers’ technical teams to establish, improve, or upgrade their services and One Net offerings as needed
- Provide recommendations regarding hiring, termination, advancement, promotion, or other modifications to the employment status of assigned personnel
- Collaborate on the development and deployment of Network Infrastructure Projects
- Advise the provisioning department on network needs and circuit best practices
- Collaborate on One Net’s research and education projects and grant engagements
- Other similar duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related degree and five (5) years of experience in networking or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and / or experience. Capability to plan, design and implement a variety of network infrastructures. Proficiency in the configuration and management of routing and switching platforms. Proficiency in routing protocol management ( OSPF , BGP , ISIS , MPLS , IPV6, etc.).
Must understand basic elements of optical transport. Possess a comprehensive understanding of TCP /IP and related protocols and technologies. Capability to troubleshoot and identify solutions to telecommunications and application issues. Ability to communicate effectively for the purpose of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal staff and subscribers. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and perform a wide range of tasks and activities in administering a telecommunications network.
Candidate must provide a mobile telephone and home Internet service for work-related activities. Some travel is required. Must maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish and develop training programs; to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions; to organize and present facts and opinions; to plan, direct, and review the work of others; to analyze complex situations and make responsible decisions; and to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of organizational units.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with research and education networks is preferred. Large scale BGP peering, route policy and DDoS mitigation experience is preferred. Experience with network automation (Ansible/Python), configuration management and telemetry/observability is preferred.
Supervision
The employee performs work under the supervision of the Chief Technology Officer.
