Executive Coach – Public Sector Leadership Development

The Executive Coach will provide individualized and group coaching services to senior leaders within the City of Oklahoma City. This role supports leadership development initiatives designed to strengthen decision-making, communication, organizational effectiveness, and change management across City departments.

The Executive Coach will work with senior government leaders including department directors, assistant directors, and division managers to support professional development, improve leadership performance, and advance strategic priorities. Coaching engagements may include one-on-one executive coaching, leadership assessments, facilitation, and strategic leadership advisory support.

The position requires deep experience in executive coaching, public sector leadership dynamics, and organizational change. Coaches must be capable of working with senior leadership in complex governmental environments.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Executive Leadership Coaching
    • Deliver individual executive coaching sessions to senior leaders to enhance leadership effectiveness, decision-making, and strategic thinking.
    • Conduct initial leadership assessments and goal-setting sessions for coaching participants.
    • Provide ongoing coaching relationships typically lasting 6–18 months.
    • Facilitate 360-degree leadership assessments and interpret results to guide development plans.
    • Provide transition coaching for new and existing leaders.
  • Leadership Development and Organizational Effectiveness
    • Support leaders in developing strategies for:
      • Organizational change management
      • Strategic planning and leadership alignment
    • Performance management conversations
    • Conflict resolution and team dynamics
  • Provide coaching related to communication, executive presence, and public speaking.
  • Deliver guidance on stress management, resilience, and leadership sustainability.
  • Group and Team Coaching
    • Facilitate leadership team coaching sessions for executive leadership groups.
    • Support departmental leadership development workshops.
    • Provide facilitation for strategic planning and leadership retreats.
  • Organizational and Government Leadership Advisory
    • Apply knowledge of public sector leadership environments, including navigating political, regulatory, and community stakeholder dynamics.
    • Provide advisory support to leadership teams managing complex public services and organizational priorities.
    • Offer guidance on succession planning and leadership pipeline development.
  • Program Support and Collaboration
    • Coordinate with the client organization to schedule coaching sessions and maintain engagement continuity.
    • Collaborate with organizational leadership to support program evaluation and improvement.
    • Track leadership development progress against coaching goals and program metrics.
  • Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
    • Minimum 10 years of executive coaching experience.
    • Demonstrated experience coaching senior leaders in government or public sector organizations.
    • Professional coaching certification (e.g., ICF – International Coaching Federation or equivalent).
    • Strong knowledge of organizational leadership, change management, and executive development.
    • Experience facilitating 360-degree feedback and leadership assessments.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while supporting multiple senior leaders.
    • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
    Preferred skills include:
      Experience supporting municipal or state government leadership teams.
    • Experience facilitating executive leadership retreats or strategic planning sessions.
    • Familiarity with leadership assessment tools such as:
      • Myers-Briggs
      • Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument
      • Leadership 360 assessments
    • Ability to deliver in-person and virtual coaching sessions.
