Brief Description
The Programmer provides general manufacturing support to the shop floor by reviewing released jobs to the shop floor, regarding sheet metal cutting and or punching. The programmer will work through jobs released by day, by line by workbench, to best cut and punch metal with optimum yield based on nesting metal by gauge, job and type. They will also support part shortages, machine support with files and work within assigned programs to ensure PSG runs efficient and effectively.
Responsibilities- Review jobs released, verify DXF files correct rev and Sigmanest library is updated prior to nesting parts required.
- Nests parts by gauge and type per needed machine flow (IE lasers, turrets and waterjet based on model and type of part)
- Periodically assists operators with file location and troubleshooting on machines if files cannot be found or operator has questions on file, number of sheets, nesting from edge of metal, etc.
- Exhibits a thorough understanding of Sigmanest programming software, file storage, DXF’s, AP100 software and works to utilize it effectively
- Supports the Production Support Group (PSG) with questions on files, tooling and overall machine programs
- Reads and understands fabrication and assembly drawings
- Can understand and utilize software to effectively reduce tool path time and laser travel by machine type and parts nested
- Support projects from engineering support group, NPD, Lab orders, equipment training, etc. as needed
- Understand and utilize lean principles in waste elimination to increase efficiency in the areas they affect
- Support RIE and PPS activities as required
- Any other reasonable task deemed necessary to support plant operations and fulfill customer requirements.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required
- Additional higher-level education (Associate or Bachelor’s degree recommended)
- Three – five years’ experience in the application of required skills for programming metal for lasers and or turrets
- Two years previous experience in a Manufacturing role
- Machine operator experience of lasers and or turrets a plus
- Proficient with MS Office
- Previous experience Sigmanest, AP100 and or other programming software beneficial
- Capable to learn both Laser and turret programming and posting in Sigmanest within defined timeline upon being new to role
- Understanding of Lasers, turrets and brake press a plus
- Understanding of tagging and labeling as well as MPP programs a plus
