POSITION SUMMARY
The Laser Programmer creates, maintains, and optimizes CNC laser programs and material nests used to support production. The position interprets engineering drawings and specifications, converts design data into accurate machine-ready programs, and works with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure parts are produced safely, accurately, and on schedule. Success requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, the ability to follow directions, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.

- Create, revise, and release CNC laser programs and material nests based on work orders and production requirements.
- Interpret dimensions, material specifications, and revision levels to ensure programmed parts meet design requirements.
- Use laser programming and nesting software to maximize material utilization, reduce scrap, and support efficient machine operation.
- Confirm the correct material type, thickness, quantity, machine parameters, and part revisions before programs are released.
- Maintain accurate electronic files, program records, setup information, and revision-controlled documentation.
- Coordinate daily priorities with supervisors, Production Control, and machine operators.
- Respond quickly and accurately to urgent production needs, machine interruptions, engineering changes, and schedule adjustments.
- Troubleshoot programming, nesting, cut-quality, and part-fit issues; communicate findings and assist with corrective actions.
- Review completed parts and operator feedback to improve cut quality, cycle time, material yield, and program reliability.
- Follow established programming standards, work instructions, safety rules, and quality procedures.
- Provide clear setup notes and instructions to laser operators and verify programs are ready for production.
- Use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications to track work, communicate status, document instructions, and maintain production information.
- Organize and prioritize multiple programming requests while maintaining accuracy under pressure and meeting required deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area and support continuous improvement activities.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical training in CNC programming, CAD/CAM, drafting, manufacturing, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Experience: Previous experience with CNC laser programming, nesting, sheet metal fabrication, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing production is preferred. Equivalent technical or manufacturing experience may be considered.
Computer
Skills:
Strong overall computer skills are required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required. Experience with CAD/CAM, laser programming, nesting software, ERP/MRP systems, or document-control systems is strongly preferred.
Technical
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, bills of material, material specifications, and revision information. Basic understanding of sheet metal fabrication and CNC laser cutting is preferred.
Other Requirements: Must be dependable, able to follow directions, detail-oriented, organized, and capable of maintaining accuracy while working under pressure. Must manage changing priorities, communicate effectively, and work independently with limited supervision after training.
