Position: Metal Processing Technician II (P)

** Industrial Support Services:*
* Tasks include a variety of industrial skills, painting, stenciling, silk screening, cleaning, metal finishing (sandblasting, chemical etching, alodining), plastic and fiberglass services of mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, electronic parts assemblies and subassemblies, in support of the FAA Logistics Center requirements. This work shall include design development from ideas and general concepts provided by the Government. The Contractor shall work from blueprints, drawings, samples and written instructions received from the Government.

** Paint and Metal Processing Support:*
* The Contractor shall provide fabrication and repair services such as painting and metal finishing in accordance with applicable standards. These services include the application of approved industry standard practices for accepted manual and mechanical painting and metal finishing techniques such as sanding, stripping, dipping, mixing, painting, staining, etching, alodining, cleaning, silk-screening, sandblasting and stenciling.

The Contractor shall apply these processes to finish and refinish NAS equipment and fixtures supported by the Logistics Center. The Contractor shall inspect the fabricated item(s) to assure that it conforms to and fulfills the requirements of the FAA or original manufacturer's specifications, technical documents and modification instructions as applicable when completed.

** Supported Equipment:*
* + All ultra-high frequency Tactical Air Navigational Aid (TACAN) antennas and Low Power TACAN Antennas (LPTA).

+ All types of electronic and/or mechanical components and transformers.

+ Rotary joints applicable to the Air Route Surveillance Radar (ARSR)-1, ARSR-2, Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR)-4, ASR-5, ASR-7 and ASR-8.

+ Pumps applicable to the ARSR-1 and Fixed Pulse Systems.

+ Gear boxes applicable to the ARSR-1, ARSR-2 and Fixed Pulse Systems.

+ Radar pedestals applicable to the ASR-4, ASR-5, ASR-7, ASR-8, ARSR-1 and Fixed Pulse Systems.

+ Miscellaneous RADAR antenna sails and Mode S (5 ft array).

+ Monitor antennas, Glide Slope antennas and LPD antennas.

+ Console cabinets for various electronic/radar displays.

+ Mobile Control Towers and DME Trailers.

+ Housing assemblies for airport and runway lighting systems.

** Responsibilities*
* + Independently perform the duties of the metal processing trade to include fabrication, repair, sandblast, clean, sand, power wash, prime, stain, paint, chemically process, silk screen and/or apply such other markings as may be required to newly constructed or repaired equipment and furnishings received from FAA Shops.

+ Maintain the proper chemical balance for etching, alodine and related metal processing tanks.

+ Use and maintain applicable tools and equipment.

+ Perform paint sanding booth and sandblaster maintenance consisting of waste dust clean up, collection for disposal and record keeping for waste turn-in.

+ Maintain the correct chemical balance of all the metal finishing tanks.

+ Keep records of all maintenance performed.

+ Comply with requirements listed in 1.4.12 Environmental Considerations for the use, storage, proper packaging and preparation for disposal of hazardous waste.

+ Perform surface preparation.

+ Perform pressure washing.

+ Perform degreasing.

+ Perform media blasting/surface sanding.

+ Perform chemical finishing.

+ Perform masking.

+ Perform priming and painting.

+ Enter time spent on this task into the DCRS system.

** Qualifications*
* + A minimum of two years of practical experience in metal processing is required.

+ Experience must include fabrication, repair, sandblast, clean, sand, power wash, prime, stain, paint, chemically process and silk screen processes.

+ Experience must include assisting in reviewing and interpreting drawings, blueprints and related information.

+ Knowledge of metal processing techniques, finishes, chemical etching, anodizing, processing, identification and surface preparation is required.

+ Knowledge of personal protective equipment and applicable environmental standards is required.

+ Ability to understand and follow technical specifications is required.

+ Knowledgeable in the use, handling, storage and disposal preparation of hazardous chemicals and materials.

+ Ability to interpret applicable instructions, blueprints, specifications and standards is required.

+ A high school diploma is required.

** Must possess TWO forms of unexpired identification to meet eligibility requirements.*
