Job Description
The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) seeks a Registered Nurse III to provide case management for infants and families with abnormal newborn screen results across Oklahoma. This role supports the Newborn Screening Program (NBS) and ensures that affected infants receive timely, effective care and education.
LocationCentral Office. Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Full‑time).
SalaryUp to $73,000.00 per year, based on education and experience.

Regular, full‑time.
Responsibilities- Coordinate daily case management for newborns screened for 54+ metabolic disorders statewide.
- Independently plan, organize, and complete complex assignments and tailor detailed care plans for infants at high risk.
- Manage case files and track testing results for all abnormal and unsatisfactory screenings.
- Consult with hospitals and healthcare providers to ensure follow‑up treatments are scheduled and completed.
- Mentor healthcare providers and families on abnormal screening results and provide educational support to parents.
- Provide technical direction and supervise subordinate and apprentice staff within the NBS.
- Offer technical support for physicians and other medical professionals related to newborn metabolic screening.
- Adhere to time‑critical schedules and supply specialized knowledge of disease processes.
- Coordinate with follow‑up specialists and nurses to ensure appropriate care continues for newborns with abnormal results.
- Lead or facilitate specialty work‑group meetings as assigned.
- Deliver NBS education to stakeholders and at community events.
- Maintain presence in the office as required.
- Valid Oklahoma Registered Nurse license approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing or recognized under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Minimum of two years of experience as a registered nurse.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred; experience in newborn screening, neonatal/pediatric nursing, and/or case management preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and subject to a background check.
Specialized knowledge of newborn screening processes, disease states, and advanced medical interventions. Strong leadership, communication, organization, time‑management, and attention to detail. Ability to identify conditions, signs and symptoms, diagnostic testing, treatment, and outcomes.
Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentOffice‑based with travel across the state for off‑site visits. Requires standing, walking, lifting, and reaching. Frequent driving necessary.
