Position: Registered Nurse - Special Needs Coordinator w/BONUS - 5198

Registered Nurse - Special Needs Coordinator at Tinker Air Force Base Oklahoma City Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages the Exceptional Family Member Program – Medical (EFMP‑M) in accordance with DOD and Air Force policy.
  • Establishes and maintains procedures to identify family members with special medical and educational needs in a timely manner.
  • Uses a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach with key service providers such as installation youth and childcare facilities, and officer and enlisted spouses groups to ensure outreach and identification of special needs.
  • Ensures AF sponsors assigned to the installation, or whose personnel functions are handled at the installation, are “Q‑coded” (EFMP‑enrolled) regardless of location of family members.
  • Provides training to installation personnel and medical staff and serves as a consultant to support the implementation of EFMP‑M.
  • Participates in the Family Member Relocation Clearance (FMRC) process, ensuring all FMRC requirements are met.
  • Maintains oversight to ensure every AF sponsor with one or more family members with special needs assigned to the installation has a Special Needs file maintained at the Medical Treatment Facility.
  • Collaborates with the Integrated Delivery System (IDS) and other interagency forums for family medical information and referrals.
  • Participates in EFMP quarterly case reviews to assess newly identified families’ complex or unmet medical needs.
  • Coordinates and participates in designated facility meetings and clinic orientations for Special Needs Program staff.
  • Completes required electronic medical record training, MTF‑specific orientation, and SNC training programs.
  • Maintains a level of productivity and quality consistent with staff policies, guidelines, and DoD guidance.
  • Complies with the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program, infection control and safety policies, and all local facility/AF/DoD instructions.
  • Documents medical records and coding and completes designated tracking logs as required.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and skills to apply SNC functions including assessment, planning, facilitation, and advocacy.
  • Mastery of theories, principles, and methodologies underlying psychosocial practice and understanding of developmental growth and human behavior dynamics.
  • Demonstrated abilities in program planning, implementation, evaluation, and conducting individual, family group, and community assessments.
  • Working knowledge of medical privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA) and accreditation standards (AAAHC, The Joint Commission).
  • Working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with tactfulness when dealing with physically or mentally ill individuals.
  • Critical thinking skills for resolving complicated healthcare, social, interpersonal, and financial patient situations.
  • Organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills to articulate medical requirements to patients, families and staff.
  • Must possess an active, unrestricted RN license from any state.
  • Minimum of 2 years full‑time post‑grad RN clinical experience in nursing and care coordination.
  • Current AHA or ARC BLS certification.
  • Ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree (BSN) in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program.
Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8 hours between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. No weekends or holidays.
