About the Role

Under the general supervision of the Chief Quality Officer, the RN will independently develop, coordinate, and perform daily activities to provide infection control surveillance and assist with education and employee health services. Responsibilities include performing surveillance and assessment of infection control practices, educating staff, conducting outbreak investigations, reviewing laboratory reports, ensuring compliance with accreditation and state standards, and maintaining policies related to infection prevention and employee health.

• Collect, record, and analyze healthcare‑associated infection data, identify target areas for surveillance, and recommend control measures.
• Provide surveillance and assessment of infection control practices related to Standard Precautions, Transmission‑Based Precautions, and Exposure Control.
• Conduct post‑operative surveillance, data collection, assessment, and report findings to the Infection Prevention Committee.
• Apply epidemiologic principles to reduce patient risk for infection in cost‑efficient manner.
• Educate individuals or small groups on infection prevention principles and initiate isolation protocols as needed for outbreaks.
• Conduct staff training on aseptic techniques, infection control, antiseptics, disinfectants, and related health‑care issues.
• Initiate and conduct outbreak investigations.
• Review laboratory reports and communicate potential communicable disease issues to affected areas.
• Provide review of disinfectant and antiseptic agent appropriateness.
• Assist in development and administration of follow‑up monitoring for patients exposed to communicable diseases.
• Provide infection prevention and control services for outpatient areas.
• Monitor compliance with accrediting body, CMS, and state standards.
• Assist with establishing standards of infection control practices that meet regulatory requirements.
• Assist with review and recommendation of medical products and engineering controls for infection control safety standards.
• Conduct research documenting infection prevention and control problems/issues.
• Assist with community infection control outreach to other facilities and practitioners.
• Facilitate annual review and revision of the Infection Control Program Policies/Procedures.
• Provide care to employees for routine health maintenance or on‑the‑job injuries.
• Demonstrate effective communication and ability to share information in a timely manner.
• Interpret and communicate policies and procedures; comprehend complex clinical subject matter related to the department.
• Maintain knowledge of medications.
• Maintain continuing education related to infection control, minimally every 2 years.
• Develop and update policies and procedures related to Employee Health.
• Ensure post‑exposure process for employees to blood and body fluids is in place.
• Initiate follow‑up on employee/patient exposure to communicable diseases.
• Conduct thorough and accurate chart reviews.
• Complete data abstraction and entry for CMS CORE measures, NHSN, Oklahoma State regulations.
• Prepare minutes for various committees accurately and timely.
• Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description, continually demonstrating competency.

• Current Registered Nurse Licensure with the State of Oklahoma.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in performance improvement and risk management.
• BLS certification within 30 days.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
