The Nurse Navigator is a leader providing support, mentorship, and guidance to direct patient care staff. The Navigator coordinates the delivery of patient care by assessing each patient’s care requirements and making recommendations based on severity of illness, intensity of service and skill level. They ensure patients receive timely, safe, effective, and high‑quality care, coordinate the patient’s plan of care with the bedside nurse, set expectations regarding professional conduct, and serve as a resource for the unit.

The Navigator holds direct and indirect care providers accountable for their professional responsibilities and adherence to regulatory guidelines. The role manages the assigned inpatient and outpatient population and facilitates an effective new care model, supporting quality patient care, safety, and financial components. Key responsibilities include pre‑op education, daily rounding while the patient is in the hospital, patient discharge disposition, and follow‑up care.

  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing

Licensure
  • Current Registered Nurse license in state of practice
Experience
  • 2–3 years’ experience required
Certifications
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
Physical Requirements
  • Requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds regularly
  • Requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift
  • Requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
Preferred Certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
