Overview

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities
  • The Cardiology NP - in collaboration with the interprofessional team - manages the care of patients in the Cardiology Department
  • The NP utilizes specialized advanced knowledge and skills to perform initial and ongoing assessment - diagnosis - education - and disease management to provide comprehensive care to this complex patient population
  • Other duties may also be assigned to assist the department as determined by the Service Chief
  • The NP works collaboratively with attending Cardiologists
    - Fellows
    - Residents - and Nursing within and across service lines
  • This position may include inpatient - outpatient and/or virtual care
  • It may include travel to other ambulatory settings
  • The NP practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification
  • Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position
  • The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position
  • The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients
  • Major duties and responsibilities of the position:
    Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
  • Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
  • Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
  • Provides education to patients and their families
  • Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes
