RN - Oncology

Profession: Registered Nurse

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of chemotherapy experience required

License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association.

Must-Have: Current chemotherapy certification

Description:

Under general supervision, provides nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

Administers PO, SC injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered by physician.

Consults with other medical personnel and may provide expert information about chemotherapy and side effects.

Provides a variety of assistance to physicians and assumes responsibility for specific assignments in the clinic.

Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.

Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.

Assists physician during conscious sedation and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.

Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients and observes their manifestations, intervening when necessary.

Administers medication as prescribed.

Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.

Delivers patient care competently.

Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the clinic, during discharge, and for continued care via phone triage.

Informs patient and family of clinic procedures.

Provides chemotherapy-related educational information to patients and families.

Answers inquiries and provides guidance as appropriate.

Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.

Delegates tasks to support staff.

Schedules patient follow-up activities related to their treatment.

Assists with coordination of care by obtaining referrals and completing phone calls with patients after their clinic visits.

Performs other duties as assigned.
