Position Overview

RN – Registered Nurse – Medicine Specialty (Full Time – Days & Nights Available). The position may be filled as RN Level 1, 2, or 3 depending on individual experience, education, and other qualifications.

Unit Description
  • Conditions cared for: hypertension, diabetes, sepsis, renal failure, liver failure, fracture, osteomyelitis, pyelonephritis, pancreatitis, and more.
  • Pods composed of RN, LPN, and CTA work collaboratively using a Collaborative Care Model.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned patient(s).
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders.
  • Assist physicians in patient examinations and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data, observe manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
  • Administer medication as prescribed and initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver patient care safely and competently.
  • Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Inform patients and families of hospital procedures and share care plans during care and at discharge.
  • Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Foster a growth mindset through mentorship, openness to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure.
  • Develop a professional career plan and establish personal, performance goals aligned with enterprise‑wide metrics.
  • Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized.
  • Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications by RN Level
  • RN I

    Education:

    Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

    Experience:

    0‑3 years in patient care as an RN.
    License:
    Current Registered Nurse License (Oklahoma State Board or multistate compact).

    Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required upon hire.
  • RN II

    Education:

    Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

    Experience:

    3‑5 years in patient care as an RN required.
    License:
    Current Registered Nurse License (Oklahoma State Board or multistate compact).

    Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required upon hire.
    Specialty certification(s) preferred.
  • RN III

    Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required;
    Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

    Experience:

    5+ years in patient care as an RN required.
    License:
    Current Registered Nurse License (Oklahoma State Board or multistate compact).

    Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required upon hire.
    Specialty certification(s) preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest.

  • Ability to maintain compliance and accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
