Description:

General Description:

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

Essential Responsibilities:

-Chemotherapy and Administration and Consultation:
Administers PO, SC injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered by physician: consults with other medical personnel and may provide expert information about chemotherapy, side effects, etc.; provides a variety of assistance to physicians.

-Assumes responsibility for clinic specific assignments.

-Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.

-Assists physician during conscious sedation patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.

-Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.

-Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.

-Delivers patient care competently.

-Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the clinic, time of discharge, and continued care via phone triage.

-Informs patient and family of clinic procedures.

Education:

Provides chemotherapy related educational information to patients, family, etc.; answers inquiries and provides guidance as appropriate.

-Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.

-Delegates tasks to support staff.

-Patient Follow Up:
Schedules patient follow-up activities related to their treatment and assists with coordination of care by obtaining referrals and completing phone calls with the patients after their clinic visits.

General Responsibilities:

-Performs other duties as assigned. Schedule Notes:

Shift varies between 8-12 hours shifts, must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Open 7 days/week. Current chemotherapy certification with at least 1 year of chemotherapy experience required. Requires ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
