Job Title: Quality Coordinator (Owner's Rep)

Duration: 11+ months, with potential for long-term extension

Pay: $55–$60 per hour plus overtime

Schedule: Approximately 50 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview

The Certified Welding Inspector will serve as an owner’s representative supporting quality control, code compliance, welding inspection, and boiler and pressure vessel activities at an operating power generation facility.

This individual will provide field oversight for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code repairs, alterations, and maintenance activities. The position will also review contractor quality documentation, maintain code repair packages, support regulatory inspections, and ensure compliance with the owner’s Quality Control Manual.

The ideal candidate will have extensive power plant or heavy industrial mechanical experience, strong knowledge of ASME Section IX, and an active AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification.

Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site quality control and welding inspection support for boiler, pressure vessel, piping, and related mechanical work.
  • Interpret applicable ASME, AWS, state, and industry codes for repairs, alterations, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist project and plant personnel with the preparation and review of code repair packages.
  • Maintain quality control records, inspection documentation, certifications, and repair packages.
  • Coordinate inspections with Authorized Inspectors and state boiler and pressure vessel representatives.
  • Perform internal and external inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, piping, and associated equipment.
  • Review contractor quality control programs, inspection records, repair packages, material certifications, and welder documentation.
  • Develop and maintain:
    Welding Procedure Specifications, Procedure Qualification Records, Welder Performance Qualifications, Welder qualification and continuity records
  • Prepare and administer welder qualification tests.
  • Verify compliance with the owner’s Quality Control Manual and support revisions, audits, and periodic reviews.
  • Provide guidance related to configuration control and Management of Change processes.
  • Coordinate steam piping hanger inspections with mechanical engineering personnel.
  • Support training for maintenance and construction personnel on welding codes and quality control requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure work is performed in accordance with site safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Active American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector certification.
  • High school diploma or GED with at least 10 years of related mechanical experience.
Or
  • Associate degree in engineering technology, power plant operations, electronics, or a related technical discipline with at least 8 years of related mechanical experience.
  • Experience in power generation, industrial construction, mechanical maintenance, military mechanical systems, or a similar heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong experience interpreting and applying ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section IX.
  • Experience inspecting welding, boilers, pressure vessels, steam piping, or other code-regulated mechanical systems.
  • Ability to review welding procedures, welder qualifications, repair packages, and contractor quality documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass annual near-vision and color-perception examinations required for CWI certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting an electric utility or power generation facility.
  • Experience working directly with Authorized Inspectors and state boiler and pressure vessel authorities.
  • Familiarity with ASME code repair programs, including National Board requirements and R-Stamp activities.
  • Knowledge of steam piping systems, piping supports, hangers, and configuration control processes.
  • Prior owner’s representative or third-party inspection experience.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily field-based within an operating power generation facility.
  • May require travel between company or project locations.
  • Must be able to work at heights exceeding 100 feet, in confined spaces, underground, and in varying weather conditions.
  • May be required to lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Requires regular use of personal protective equipment.
  • Requires frequent driving to perform project and inspection responsibilities.
