Position Summary

The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Coordinator supports the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the site's Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System. This role works closely with operations, maintenance, and leadership to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements while promoting a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, risk reduction, and continuous improvement. The EHS Coordinator serves as a visible safety leader by conducting routine inspections, supporting investigations, coordinating safety training, maintaining regulatory records, and assisting with the implementation of corporate EHS initiatives.


Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910), EPA requirements, and applicable state/local regulations.
  • Support compliance with company EHS policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintain required environmental, health, and safety documentation.
  • Assist during regulatory inspections and internal audits.
  • Monitor compliance with permits and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct routine facility safety inspections.
  • Complete Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Perform Equipment Safety Risk Assessments (ESRAs).
  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Track corrective actions through completion.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) activities.
  • Respond to workplace incidents.
  • Conduct investigations utilizing root cause analysis.
  • Develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Track leading and lagging safety metrics.

Training

Coordinate and deliver employee training including:

  • Annual required safety training
  • Refresher training
  • Safety awareness campaigns
  • Contractor orientations

Support environmental compliance activities including:

  • Hazardous waste accumulation areas
  • Universal waste management
  • Spill prevention
  • Stormwater inspections (if applicable)
  • Recycling initiatives
  • Sustainability projects

Safety Engagement

  • Conduct daily floor walks.
  • Coach employees on safe work practices.
  • Facilitate safety observations.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings.
  • Promote employee involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Assist with recognition programs.

Auditing & Inspections

Conduct or coordinate:

  • Weekly safety inspections
  • PPE assessments
  • Fire extinguisher inspections
  • Eyewash inspections
  • Emergency lighting inspections
  • First aid supply inspections
  • Housekeeping audits
  • Powered industrial truck observations


Qualifications

Education

  • Required:Associate’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field
  • Preferred:Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline

Experience

  • Required:

    1-3 years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience in manufacturing, distribution, or industrial operations.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently walk manufacturing and warehouse floors.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Climb stairs and ladders.
  • Wear required PPE.
  • Work in varying temperatures and industrial environments.

Preferred Behavioral Traits

The ideal candidate is a highly visible, hands-on safety professional who spends significant time on the production floor coaching employees, identifying hazards before incidents occur, and building positive relationships with operations. They demonstrate initiative, accountability, strong organizational skills, and the ability to influence safe behaviors.
