JOB SUMMARY

The Field Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring our products conform to all applicable laws and company quality and safety standards. This position, primarily operating in an outdoor environment, will sample, inspect, and test all produced materials (concrete, aggregate, sand, etc.) and compare against specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Obtain samples and perform necessary tests on various concrete and aggregate products following ASTM and ODOT standards.
  • Preparing samples of products for customers and testing laboratories and may deliver to assure safe arrival.
  • Records and maintains test data and other required information. This includes both written records and data input into a personal computer.
  • Performs necessary housekeeping functions in laboratory area.
  • Performs daily maintenance on lab and test equipment.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.

Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.

Concrete Testing Emphasis
  • Assist mixer drivers in determining quality and consistency of concrete.
  • Conduct compressive strength testing on concrete cylinders.
  • Gain basic knowledge of moisture control in concrete mixtures.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the types, applications and dosages of concrete admixtures.
Aggregate Testing Emphasis
  • Perform physical properties testing on coarse and fine aggregates according to ASTM and/or ODOT Specifications.
  • Regular, reliable attendance at the worksite or assigned work location.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education & Experience:

    High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to obtain ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification within 9 months of start date.
  • Attention to detail and maintaining data integrity.
  • Good observation skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and can work without direct supervision.
  • Must work well with others in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships.
  • Must be able to quickly understand and adhere to safety requirements of this position.
  • Good computer input skills.
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work near, around, or on light or heavy equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift objects repeatedly of various dimensions and up to 100 lbs. of weight
  • Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and climb ladders
  • Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
  • Ability to tolerate working in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting
  • Ability to repeatedly walk on uneven surfaces
