Job DescriptionOU Health Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma’s only National Cancer Institute‑Designated Cancer Center. The Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) is hiring a staff research assistant to support multiple ongoing research studies. The role serves as the first point of contact for participants at HPRC and includes participant referrals, screening, data collection, record keeping, data analyses, and report preparation. Research studies include NIH‑funded and pilot randomized controlled trials focused on health behavior change (e.g., smoking cessation, alcohol use reduction, marijuana use reduction).
Opportunities to be included on research publications are ample.
- Conduct research and laboratory analysis for research staff, including measuring and weighing compounds, isolating, identifying, and preparing specimens, and collecting samples.
- Participate in clinical research projects and collect data from patients and/or participants.
- Collect various forms of data, including database information and hard files.
- Conduct data analyses, interpret data, draw conclusions, and discuss with principal investigator.
- Keep detailed logs of all research‑related projects or activities.
- Conduct literature searches.
- Prepare reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content for publication.
- Construct tests or assist in the construction of tests.
- Collaborate with other researchers or colleagues.
- Participate in meetings and present research findings to the principal investigator.
- Perform various duties as needed to fulfill the function of the position.
Department Preferences
:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (psychology, social work, sociology, public health).
Required Education and Experience
:
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (biology, psychology, engineering, computer science, sociology, or related), AND 1 year of experience supporting research or working in a laboratory setting.
Equivalency/Substitution
:
Experience or a combination of education and related experience can be considered in lieu of a degree. A one‑to‑one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree.
- Working knowledge of safely handling and disposing of biohazardous materials or chemicals following regulations.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to analyze data and keep records.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Physical:
- Standing for prolonged periods.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Reaching, bending, and stooping.
- Environmental:
- Laboratory environment.
- Exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, odors, and/or carcinogens.
