Position Overview And Responsibilities
The Lee Lab in the Cardiovascular Biology Research Program (CVB) at the OMRF investigates mechanisms of heart diseases using mouse models and molecular techniques and is seeking a research technician.
- Perform injections, blood, and tissue sample collection.
- Conduct histology and surgical procedures (after proper training).
- Quantify RNA and protein levels.
- Prepare reagents and order supplies.
- Maintain and organize the laboratory.
- Present findings to the Principal Investigator.
- Manage mouse colony (breeding, ear tagging).
- Perform PCR genotyping.
- Collect experimental data.
Assignments are typically non-routine and variable in nature.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant laboratory experience.
- Ability and willingness to handle laboratory mice, including breeding, maintenance, and procedures as needed.
- Basic proficiency with computers, including internet browsing, order processing systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to comprehend instructions, follow protocols, and perform precise, accurate work when handling samples and chemicals.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to compute basic mathematical operations such as rates, ratios, percentages, molarity, and unit conversions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for documenting procedures, summarizing data, and collaborating effectively with team members.
- Previous experience working with laboratory mice, PCR genotyping and molecular biology techniques are highly desirable.
- Typically, Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 5:30PM. Occasional work outside these hours may happen with advanced notice.
