Position
Laboratory Assistant (Part-Time)
Responsibilities- Support laboratory exercises associated with Biology.
- Prepare and set up laboratory sessions as needed for student and faculty use.
- Maintain, prepare, and replenish supplies and equipment needed for laboratory sessions.
- Maintain laboratory computers and experiment interface instruments.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Assist faculty and students with equipment utilization, setup, and/or replacement during laboratory sessions.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding lab needs.
- Order laboratory supplies as needed and maintain inventory.
- Clean and properly dispose of waste, including hazardous waste, following applicable health and safety regulations.
- Supervise student use of laboratory facilities when laboratories are open.
- Participate in the development of safety procedures and training for faculty and students who use laboratory equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Support Supervisor, Program Coordinators, and Division Dean.
- Maintain regular attendance, as it is an essential function of the position.
- Twenty‑four (24) college credit hours, including at least one (1) successfully completed lab class in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related area.
- One (1) year of experience in a laboratory or related area.
- Experience with computers.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and reach above shoulder height.
- Capacity to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, and stoop as required by the job.
- Associate’s degree in a STEM related area.
- Experience working in a higher‑education institution, preferably in a laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with computers and software related to science.
- Ability to set up and use scientific instrumentation and equipment.
$14.00 per hour
