About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Geneticist to spearhead their agricultural sciences division in George . This pivotal role involves leading research into crop improvement through advanced genetic techniques. You will guide a team of scientists in identifying and applying genetic markers for enhanced yield, disease resistance, and climate resilience in key crops. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable agriculture and possesses a strong background in plant genetics and breeding, contributing to the advancement of food security in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of genetic research programs for crop improvement .
  • Oversee the application of molecular markers and genomic selection techniques in breeding programs.
  • Analyze large-scale genomic data to identify desirable traits and genetic variations.
  • Manage and mentor a team of geneticists and research assistants, ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Collaborate with agronomists and plant breeders to translate genetic findings into practical agricultural applications.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant biosafety and ethical guidelines in research activities.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Genetics, Plant Breeding, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in agricultural research, with a focus on plant genetics.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading research teams and managing complex projects.
  • Proficiency in genomic analysis tools and bioinformatics software.
  • Strong understanding of statistical genetics and quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement.
