Position: 2026-2027 Secondary - HS Teacher - Science

Position Summary

Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; and establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Essential Duties
  • Teach science (Earth Science, General Science, General Science Concepts, General Science Essentials, Life Science, Physical Science) to pupils in a classroom using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma City Public Schools.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and district regulations.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction; adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with identified objectives.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences that best utilize available instructional time.
  • Utilize fair grading patterns based on identified criteria.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed for a functional learning atmosphere; treat pupils with respect and dignity.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress and interpret the school program.
  • Interact with pupils, staff, and parents in a positive and professional manner.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with professionals to help pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Establish rapport with pupils and provide a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
  • Actively participate in the full implementation of the OKCPS School Improvement model.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Ensure continuity of services; alternative work sites may be necessary during health crises or disruptive situations that require school closures. Eligibility and expectations will be determined by the superintendent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education for any of the subjects listed below (or alternative teaching certification approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education).
    • AERONAUTICS – 8001 Aeronautics, private pilot license, basic ground instruction certificate issued by the FAA, 6013 Physical Science, or 6015 Physics.
    • ANATOMY/PHYSIOLOGY – 6001 Anatomy/Physiology or 6050 Biological Sciences; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • ASTRONOMY – 6009 Earth Science, 6013 Physical Science, or 6015 Physics; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • BIOLOGY – 6003 Biology or 6050 Biological Sciences; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • BOTANY – 6005 Botany or 6050 Biological Sciences; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • CHEMISTRY – 6006 Chemistry; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • EARTH SCIENCE – 6009 Earth Science; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • ELECTRONICS – 6015 Physics; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE – any 6‑12 or 7‑12 science certification; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • GEOLOGY – Earth Science; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • MICROBIOLOGY – Biology or Biological Sciences; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • ECOLOGY – any certification; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • LIFE SCIENCE – Biology or Biological Sciences; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • PHYSICAL SCIENCE – Physical Science, Physics, or Chemistry; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • PHYSICS – Physics; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • PRINCIPALS OF TECHNOLOGY – Physics; must meet highly qualified requirements.
    • ZOOLOGY – Zoology or Biological Sciences; must meet highly qualified requirements.
