Position Brief
This position prepares, maintains, and cleans the lab for student activities in chemistry and physics; maintains lab safety; prepares reagents and maintains equipment; assists students; manages inventory; ensures consistent setup across labs.
Responsibilities- Set up, maintain, and take down labs for student activities.
- Clean and organize labs and stock rooms.
- Maintain lab safety and enforce safety regulations.
- Prepare lab reagents and solutions, performing calculations for specified molarities and compositions.
- Assist students and professors with lab questions and equipment operation.
- Organize and maintain inventory records and supplies.
- Respond to supply requests and maintain inventory records.
- Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones, emails, and using spreadsheets.
- Assist with computer software queries in the Physical Science Center.
- Participate in safety trainings and emergency drills.
- Associate Degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field; or equivalent 60 credit hours toward a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, or related field.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for hazardous materials, laboratory equipment, procedures, and theoretical concepts.
- Ability to handle 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, 10 pounds constantly; lift up to 60 pounds.
- Mild to moderate mobility demands; visual ability corrected.
- Skills:
Human relations, basic algebra/trigonometry for chemistry and physics problems, verbal communication.
Quarterly compliance training as assigned by the institution.
Work Hours40 hours a week, including nights and weekends as needed; typical schedule on Monday through Thursday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, some hours Friday and Saturday; schedules arranged per semester.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
Physical Demands & Working ConditionsMedium work: requires occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds, frequent exertion up to 20 pounds, up to 10 pounds constantly. May need visual ability to detect hazards. May need to lift equipment up to 60 pounds. Work performed in a relatively safe environment with occasional exposure to chemical hazards, human blood, and other potentially infectious materials. Requires flexible schedule, including nighttime and weekend hours.
