Physical Science Center Lab Aide - Student
Physical Sciences Center (PSC) lab aide assists PSC lab assistants and faculty with routine tasks required for operation of science labs and laboratory preparation areas under supervision.
Reports to:
Physical Sciences Center Lab Supervisor. No other positions report to this role.

Flexible schedule ranging from 10–25 hours per week, may include nights or weekends depending on PSC operational requirements. Schedules set each semester and respect the student’s course load demands.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge relevant to tutoring coursework related to the applicant’s field.
- Maintain a clean and organized work and storage area.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures.

- Effective communication, customer service, and human relations skills.
Basic knowledge of laboratory setup, materials, and procedures.
Required TrainingAll OCCC training appropriate for this position when offered.
Job Duties- Effectively interact and communicate with students, faculty, and staff.
- Participate in required training provided by OCCC.
- Assist PSC lab assistants and staff with maintenance and upkeep of lab and communal areas (sweeping, moping, dusting).
- Wash, rinse, dry, and store laboratory glassware in designated storage areas.
- Assist in opening or closing the PSC following assigned procedures.
- Assist with administrative tasks during scheduled times in the PSC.
- Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain laboratory, preparation, and stockroom areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Abide by Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.
- Contribute to a safe educational and working environment.
- Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices.
- Complete quarterly health and safety training per OCCC procedures.
- Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter‑in‑place drills.
- Assist others in taking appropriate action during health or safety emergencies.
Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and frequent lifting up to 10 pounds. Requires frequent communication, standing, and movement within lab areas. Requires operation of lab equipment and computer. Exposed to hazards including mechanical parts, electrical current, high heat, hazardous chemicals, fumes, dust, and gases.
BenefitsOpen until filled; salary $10.00 per hour.
