Position Summary
Responsible for supervision of assigned Campus Security Officers and ensuring all assigned staff are oriented, assigning work, scheduling, disciplining, evaluating and granting leave. Provides security of assigned sites to ensure protection of all property, staff, visitors and students. Responds to emergency calls, security alarms, and other safety or security related issues. Follows the district’s standard operating procedures by enforcing regulations and directives for the assigned tasks, sites, and acts as a deterrent by remaining visible.
Duties
- This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & Safety Sensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre‑employment drug screen before being hired or transferred.
Employees holding safety‑sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. - Actively engage and create a positive rapport with students, parents, staff and visitors.
- Supervises, trains, and mentors Campus Security Officers.
- Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and mentor.
- Monitor and patrol assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds, and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies.
- Directs traffic, enforces parking, and other vehicle matters when necessary.
- Remove disruptive individuals from the premises when necessary.
- Assist school staff, law enforcement, and other emergency personnel in crisis and emergency situations.
- Ensure staff, visitors, and contractors wear and display OKCPS identification badges while on property.
- Intervene when necessary to prevent potentially dangerous or disruptive situations. Notify building administration, supervisor, and emergency personnel as necessary.
- Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.
- Wear District designated attire and equipment in a clean and professional manner.
- Ensure grooming and appearance is professional in nature.
- Maintain a strict level of confidentiality concerning all OKCPS staff, students, and records.
- Monitor and operate electronic safety and security equipment.
- Provide security for special events and other activities outside normal working hours.
- Maintain good physical condition.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to meet district’s insurance coverage requirements.
- Must have and maintain a current Oklahoma CLEET Armed Guard License.
- Must provide individual weapon, ammunition, minimum level 2 retention holster and equipment (i.e. 9mm up to 45mm semi‑automatic, all others must be approved by Director of Security). All equipment must be approved by OKCPS Security Director or designee.
- Ability to maintain control under stressful situations and de‑escalate situations.
- Ability to pass physical fitness test.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Knowledge of reporting writing.
- Experience working with students or school environment.
- Three (3) years of experience as a security officer.
- Certified in a secondary (less lethal) use of force tool (i.e. OC Pepper Spray).
Physical Requirements
- Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer.
- Adhere to all local, state and federal laws.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone.
- Physical agility, able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, run and reach.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to pass annual fitness test.
