Summary Description
With safety being top priority, the service technician will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining equipment including HVAC, building control systems, systems involving electric and pneumatic airflow, water flow, gas/electric heating and cooling equipment, boilers, valves, apparatus and lines used in the distribution of heated, chilled or processed water, computerized building management system, variable frequency drive units, and computerized maintenance management systems.
PrimaryEssential Duties And Responsibilities

- Responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Uses a variety of hand‑tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
- Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs systems and products.
- Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
- Prepares for on‑site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating on‑site work as necessary.
- Maintains equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
- Represents the company by serving as a direct customer contact.
- Ensures jobs are completed within allotted hours and in budget.
- Assists in ordering parts for repairs and timeliness of need.
- Documents work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, progress, and duration; and maintaining files. Turns in paperwork in a timely manner.
- Records parts, material, labor, subs, and other cost data per assignment and returns unused resources.
- Reads and interprets product specifications, understands building specifications, drawings and designs.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and on‑call rotation as necessary.
- Trains, directs, or mentors activity and work product of tradesmen, apprentices, or shop technicians as needed.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Maintains company equipment, truck, assigned tools, and shop equipment.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or ExperienceCompletion of five‑year trade school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or six years of related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered. Above average math skills, ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical design schematics, and ability to evaluate standard technical situations and troubleshoot common operator mistakes that lead to improper system operation.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- EPA Universal Certification.
- Professional License Preferred (HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, etc.).
- State driver’s license, auto insurance, auto registration, acceptable driving record.

Specific Programs and/or SkillsSpecialty software training provided upon hire.
Communication SkillsAbility to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person‑to‑person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public, and other employees of the organization.
