Carpenter
Major duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Utilizes and selects correct materials, tools and trade methods for repairs.
- Mills heavy lumber, cuts bevels, rabbets, chamfers, grooves, and compound miter joints.
- Evaluates problems and determines how or what repairs to make and the type and grade of wood or appropriate wood substitute materials.
- Sets up and adjusts stationary power equipment by checking and adjusting, for example, the "squareness" of the blade on a radial arm saw in relation to the surface of the cutting table.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections to determine safety hazards, damage and repair requirements.
- Utilizes the common carpenter's rule/square in terms of measuring material to the nearest 1/32 of an inch.
- Utilizes and interprets equipment manuals, catalogs, sketches/drawings for gaining information to effectively assemble or repair equipment, doors, windows and hardware.
- Interprets and customizes systems furnishings using proper practices/instructions suggested by manufacturer's and trade standards.
- Interprets, creates and maintains work orders, purchase order requests and other shop records.
- Uses carpentry skills and techniques to remove, disassemble, repair, replace, install and maintain various building structural components to accomplish repairs, alterations, additions and occasional new construction.
- Installs systems furniture according to manufacturer's instructions to include panel hung furnishings, furnishing installed on wall standards modular systems furnishings.
- Operates a full range of industrial woodworking and related power and hand tools and other woodworking equipment.
- Uses carpentry skills and techniques to maintain building structural components without more than normal supervision.
- Installs systems furniture without more than normal supervision.
- Completes work assignments without more than normal supervision.
- Uses various kinds of coating materials such as solvents and pre- coating agents such as paint, varnish, epoxy, Teflon and paint remover.
- Uses various types and grades of wood or appropriate wood substitute materials.
- Uses various types of glues, epoxies, bonding agents and other materials required in a hospital setting.
- Plans, measures, and layout metal studs for walls.
- Plans, measures, and layout of suspended grid type ceilings.
- Plans, measures, and layout floor coverings.
