Building Electronics Technician – Staff (or) Associate – Grade:
Non‑Exempt 40 (or Non‑Exempt 38) – Job Code: 129458 (or 125985)
This role is posted for two skill levels (Associate/Level I and Staff/Level II). Applicants will be considered for the higher level in which they qualify. Responsible for installation, maintenance, and operation of building electronic systems, including building automation, fire alarm control, security access, camera systems, fuel monitoring, UPS/generator systems, HVAC central plant equipment, fire protection, EV charging, and related systems. Responsible for programming, maintenance, calibration, inspection, and operational testing of all hardware and software to ensure reliable system performance.
Levelof Responsibility
- General responsibilities with standardized processes.
- Works under limited supervision; resolves routine questions and problems; refers complex issues to higher levels.
- Follows established procedures; some latitude for deviation.
- Provide technical expertise for installation, maintenance, and performance of building automation, security, card access, central plant, and energy management systems, and interlocks to fire alarms, standby generators, UPS, and storage tanks.
- Document systems for future reference including SAP, redline drawings, and programming records.
- Recommend equipment and system updates; provide technical support for corporate security departments.
- Coordinate implementation of Security Plan and ensure FERC Appendix G compliance, member‑safety feasibility, and systems integration.
- Provide off‑site facility automation control.
- Program, monitor, calibrate, inspect, and perform operational testing on electronic control systems (facility control, security, card access, fire, video).
- Assume responsibility for inspection, maintenance, and repair of EV charging stations, troubleshooting electrical, network, and software issues to ensure reliable uptime.
- Perform hydronic and air‑balancing for HVAC systems.
- Work with Facilities and Construction Management to upgrade or install new processes and equipment.
- Maintain periodic maintenance schedules; coordinate and plan preventative and corrective maintenance on plant and facility equipment.
- Assist and train junior technicians.
- All other duties as assigned.
Associate
- Associate’s Degree or Certificate from a Technical Program in Electronics, or
- High School Diploma/GED plus 1 year of experience with building automation systems/controls (commercial/industrial HVAC, lighting) and security equipment installation (camera, DVR, card access systems).
- Experience reading and interpreting schematic drawings and construction documents.
- Proficiency with computer software such as MS Office or SAP.
Staff
- Associate’s Degree or Certificate from a Technical Program in Electronics; plus 2 years of experience with building automation systems/controls (commercial/industrial HVAC, lighting) and security equipment installation, or
- High School Diploma/GED plus 4 years of experience with building automation systems/controls (commercial/industrial HVAC, lighting) and security equipment installation.
- Experience reading and interpreting schematic drawings and construction documents.
- Proficiency with computer software such as MS Office or SAP.
- May require non‑standard schedules, including on‑call and call‑outs.
- May require travel.
- May require working at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet or underground.
- May require overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires working with a multi‑craft crew.
- May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
General Requirements
- Sitting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and repetitive motions occasionally.
- Standing, walking, climbing, grasping, eye/hand/foot coordination frequently.
