DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation. Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on HVAC systems and related components to determine wear, reliability and load capabilities.
- Installs and repairs air handlers and components.
- Installs, modifies, repairs all HVAC equipment in the building.
- Plans layout and installation of HVAC wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Assembles, installs, tests, or maintains HVAC or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using proper tools.
- Uses proper techniques and knowledge of HVAC wiring and equipment maintenance.
- Prepares sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of HVAC or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- Follows installation, maintenance, and repair manuals to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Interprets and applies manufacturer's handbooks, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine material, tools, and equipment needed.
- Tests HVAC systems or equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
- Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
- Inspects HVAC systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Troubleshoots circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components.

Physical Requirements: Walking, standing, lifting (70 pounds or more), craw ling, pulling, and pushing, inside and outside building are required.

He is frequently exposed to the danger of strains, cuts, scraps, bruises, electrical shock, caustic chemicals, bums and flying particles in the pressurized. duct system.
