The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems within a mission-critical data center environment. This role supports high-availability infrastructure including power distribution systems, backup generation, UPS systems, and critical cooling equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components in accordance with NEC and local codes
- Work on medium- and high voltage systems
- Install and terminate conduit, cable tray, feeders, branch circuits
- Support installation and maintenance of UPS systems, PDUs, switch gear, generators, ATS units, and transformers
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical distribution equipment
- Troubleshoot power quality and distribution issues
- Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, and technical drawings
- Conduct load testing and assist with commissioning activities
- Maintain detailed documentation of work performed
- Follow strict safety and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and facility operations teams
- 3–5+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience
- Experience working with 3-phase power systems
- Strong understanding of NEC and local electrical codes
- Experience bending EMT/RMC conduit
- Ability to read electrical schematics and one-line diagrams
- Knowledge of safety standards and PPE requirements
- Data center or mission-critical facility experience
- Experience with switch gear, UPS systems, generators, ATS, and paralleling gear
- Familiarity with BMS/EPMS systems
- Experience with infrared scanning and power quality testing
