The Director of Pastoral Services leads the day‑to‑day operations of the department and coordinates spiritual care for patients, families, visitors, employees and physicians. The role provides input into program development, performs chaplain duties as needed, and promotes the Sisters of Mercy mission, values and Mercy Service Standards.

• Master’s degree in theology or related field (required)
• Minimum 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (required)
• Board certification in NACC or APC (required)
• Minimum 3 years recent health‑care experience (required)
• Preferred 5 years ministry experience with leadership duties

Qualifications

• Effective verbal and written communication and facilitation skills
• Ability to coordinate tasks of others and work independently
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and good time‑management skills
• Knowledge of health‑care delivery systems, regulatory bodies and performance improvement principles
• Motivation to pursue continued education and function well in a team environment
• Theological framework for dealing with suffering, pain, illness, death and hospitalization

Working Conditions

• Ability to move freely within the facility with moderate high walking, provide weekend/evening coverage by rotation
• Work under pressure in hectic environment, manage multiple concurrent priorities
• Respond to spiritual needs of sick/dying persons
• Physical demands: push, pull up to 20 lbs., grip up to 30 lbs., pinch up to 10 lbs., kneel, crouch, crawl minimally
• Typical equipment used: computer, fax, copier, video projector
